All due respect to Sri Lanka but they are not the team of Muralitharan et al, if this were against India in India then I'd say it's a fantastic A* achievement but at the moment it's B+.Let's see what happens in the Ashes next summer.
@311 Takinsumpositives "Keeping karma is coming..."Sorry, does this refer to Foakes' possible injury today? Are you wishing injury on of our (in form) players? (I hope not!)
Keeping karma is coming...
oi oi oi the Adil Rashid / Keaton Jennings show continues and Sri Lanka are suddenly 3 down. Keaton Jennings has sent all 3 back to the hutch. He is having a very fine series in that close catching position. Come on England. Keep this fight back going.
Me and the 2 female pundits called it yesterday - England out for under 350 from a great position thanks to Jonny. That's some poor batting from a few - Buttler & Moeen especially. Those two always cut corners & get out for squat when they try to chase the score along too quickly once we're ahead. Its a 5 day game - bat time for once why don't you Jos & Mo?
Tea and Sri Lanka are 183-2 and putting us under some serious pressure. Ben Stokes is bowling seriously quick and Rashid is turning the ball sideways on occasions. Really sorry Broad didn't get his wicket ( he bowled some beauties too ) but Captain Root dropped a very simple catch when Broad snagged the edge. Fascinating game and ready for the next twists and turns in a super series of cricket
“If I'm not keeping wicket then so be it. Ben's come in and he's done well and, like people have said, I've not really done too much wrong when it's come to keeping over the last two or three years. That is, in some ways, hard to take because it's not like you've had a massive dip in form so therefore it's your fault. Injuries happen, people come in and do well and that's professional sport.“
What is Jonny moaning about?'dropped when not deserved' - Foakes is a better wicketkeeper/gloveman. And Jonny's last ten Test innings before this hundred: 0, 2, 6, 33, 0, 2, 0, 6, 18, 28.He played when injured to deny another player a chance, when he wasn't fit to do so. And got himself dropped. No one has a divine right to stay in the Test team. It's earned.
Not sure if I’m disappointed with 336 or. It after finally getting a good start we still end up sub 400....needed those vital lower order Curran runs. Great fight back from Bairstow fabulous knock poor out shot from Root and should have taken that catch (that doesn’t make me a Yorkshire hater btw!)...and miss jimmy’s no 11 partnerships!
The Yorkshire haters are on the defensive today.
Delighted for Bairstow. He's a top cricketer. But a few comments here have a simplistic attitude to what a permanent No3 is. Facing Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc, potentially in the first over of the First Test next summer is a whole different set of problems - and he currently has a batting flaw that he needs to correct. Knowing JB, he probably will. Foakes currently the better keeper.
@299Brianusedtobe8: You elevate sheer ignorance to an art form.
298. Raedwulf: No, Pelham Barton is my correct name. I was born in 1958 and work at Birmingham University, but take enough time off in the summer to watch a match in every round of County Championship matches.
