Mark Cosgrove's unbeaten century gave Leicestershire a healthy lead against Derbyshire on day three at Derby.
Tom Milnes and Ben Cotton shared a 65-run ninth-wicket partnership as the hosts were bowled out for 352.
After Cotton bowled Ned Eckersley cheaply, Mark Footitt picked up his 250th first-class wicket for Derbyshire when he had Angus Robson caught behind.
The visitors fell to 55-3, but Cosgrove and Aadil Ali shared a 144-run fourth-wicket stand to help them reach 307-7.
It was Leicestershire captain Cosgrove's fourth first-class hundred of the season, an innings which included 18 fours and a six.
