Ravi Bopara led a fine Essex batting display as they chased a tough target to beat Middlesex in the One-Day Cup.
The all-rounder struck an unbeaten 82 off 88 balls to see his side to 297-4 and a six-wicket win at Colchester.
Tom Westley chipped in with 56 and captain Ryan ten Doeschate blasted 45 not out off 32 balls.
Earlier, Nick Gubbins missed out on his second century of the week as he fell for 96, while skipper James Franklin made 63 as Middlesex reached 296-5.
Gubbins, who made 141 against Sussex on Monday, hit nine boundaries and two sixes in his 102-ball innings before he picked out Westley at deep mid-wicket off Reece Topley.
All of the Essex batsmen contributed in the chase, but Bopara and ten Doeschate's fifth-wicket stand of 96 in 12 overs made sure of the victory.
Essex, who sit second in Group B, can seal their quarter-final place by beating Sussex at Hove on 19 August.
Middlesex are sixth, but level on five points with a number of teams around them.
