Craig Overton's all-round performance put Somerset on course for victory over champions Yorkshire at Taunton.
Overton (31 not out) and twin brother Jamie, who scored an 18-ball fifty, pushed Somerset to 485 all out.
With a lead of 47, Overton (3-36) took two wickets in two balls, including that of first-innings centurion Jack Leaning, to reduce Yorkshire to 117-5.
However, Jonny Bairstow (33 not out) guided the visitors to 171-5, 124 runs ahead, to give the Tykes hope.
|Yorkshire tough to beat|
|Yorkshire have lost just three County Championship games since Jason Gillespie took over as head coach in 2011. Their last defeat was by Middlesex in April 2014|
An early burst from Steve Patterson (5-70) gave Yorkshire the edge, with Tom Cooper falling one run short of a century.
But an aggressive 10th-wicket partnership between the Overton brothers gave Somerset a handy first-innings lead, the 76 runs they contributed together coming in just 5.5 overs.
Yorkshire lost opener Alex Lees early on for one, lbw to Peter Trego (1-28), to add to Yorkshire's struggles before Will Rhodes (40) edged Johann Myburgh to slip.
Yorkshire were wobbling when Andrew Gale (12) and Leaning (52) fell to consecutive Overton deliveries, but Bairstow reigned in his attacking nature to guide Yorkshire to the close.
