Cheteshwar Pujara struck an unbeaten century and Jack Brooks took vital wickets as Yorkshire took complete control against Hampshire on day three.

After picking up Hampshire's two remaining wickets, the home side's batsmen lengthened their lead.

Pujara (133 not out) shared a 130-run partnership with Jonny Bairstow (59) before Jack Leaning (43 not out) scored quickly to set a daunting total of 449.

Brooks then took three quick wickets to leave the visitors 37-4 at stumps.

The day did not begin auspiciously for Hampshire as Lewis McManus was trapped lbw by seamer Brooks, who took 4-57 in the first innings, with the eighth ball of the day.

Hampshire's innings was wrapped up in the following over when James Tomlinson became Adil Rashid's fourth victim - meaning the final two wickets had fallen for just four runs.

Yorkshire then reached 80-3, with Fidel Edwards taking two wickets, to bring India international Pujara and England's Bairstow together for the day's defining period.

Pujara comes good
Cheteshwar Pujara's innings was his first century for Yorkshire and his highest first-class score since he made 135 not out for India against South Africa in December 2013.

The pair scored 130 runs in 30 overs to take the score to 210-4 and push Yorkshire's lead to 343, effectively ending any fleeting hopes Hampshire retained of victory.

Leaning's unbeaten 43 off 32 balls ensured all momentum was with the hosts, allowing captain Andrew Gale to declare on 305-4.

Brooks (3-16) then continued his outstanding form with the ball by dismissing batsmen Sean Terry, Michael Carberry and James Vince to leave Hampshire reeling on 11-3.

Rashid completed a dominant day for the hosts by trapping Liam Dawson lbw late on to leave reigning champions Yorkshire requiring six more wickets on the final day to secure their second Championship win of the season.
