Injury-hit Sri Lanka have added Kusal Perera to their World Cup squad as an injury replacement for fellow wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Chandimal.

Chandimal, 25, retired hurt after he pulled a hamstring while batting during Sunday's defeat by Australia in Sydney.

Perera, 24, has scored 839 runs in 41 one-day internationals but was dropped after Sri Lanka's one-day series against England in December.

He joins the squad in time for Sunday's game against Scotland in Hobart.

Sri Lanka have already qualified for the quarter-finals, while Scotland have been eliminated from contention.

Chandimal is the fourth Sri Lanka player to be ruled out of the tournament by injury since their original squad was announced.

Pace bowler Dhammika Prasad (fractured hand), all-rounder Jeevan Mendis (hamstring) and batsman Dimuth Karunaratne (broken finger) have already been replaced by Dushmantha Chameera, Upul Tharanga and Seekkuge Prasanna respectively.

Spinner Rangana Herath missed the Australia game after suffering a cut to his spinning finger, and will not be risked against Scotland.
