Cornwall stage fightback to beat Berkshire in opening game


Cornwall came back from a 258-run deficit to beat Berkshire by 33 runs in their opening Minor Counties Championship match at Henley.

The Duchy were forced to follow-on after being bowled out for 211 in their first innings, as they chased Berkshire's opening total of 388.

Alex Smeeth hit 140 as Cornwall were all out for 371.

But Shakil Ahmed and Kelvin Snell each got four wickets as Cornwall bowled out their opponents for 161.

Ahmed took 4-50 off 30.2 overs to add to the four wickets he took in the first innings, while Snell had figures of 4-69 from 23 overs.

It was Cornwall's first championship win in Berkshire since 1996.

Their next game is away to the champions Cheshire on 22 June.
