|Close, day three: Glamorgan 438 & 16-0, Essex 520-9 dec|
|Essex 7pts, Glamorgan 6pts|
Tom Westley and Owais Shah both made centuries as Essex built a decent first innings lead against Glamorgan.
Replying to Glamorgan's first innings 438, Essex declared on 520-9 on day three at Colchester before the visitors reached 16-0 in six overs at the close.
Westley, 90 out of Essex's overnight 165-0, made a career-best 185, while Shah hit four sixes in his 138 as the pair put on 191 for the second wicket.
The ageless Robert Croft was again among the wickets, taking 5-135.
The 42-year-old former England off spinner Croft, out of contract at the end of the season, again showed his worth. But Shah's first century of the season was the highlight of the day.
Jaik Mickleburgh added only two to his overnight score, caught behind for 74, before Westley and Shah took control.
After surpassing his previous best of 132, the longer his marathon effort went on, the more subdued Westley became.
And he scored only 35 runs in 29 overs after lunch before he finally went on the stroke of tea, trying to sweep Croft.
At tea, Essex still required 24 runs from three overs to move to 400 and pick up maximum bonus batting points.
But that mission was accomplished with just a ball to spare thanks to a flourish from Shah that included an on-side six off Jim Allenby.
