County Championship Division One, Taunton
Close, day three: Lancashire 400, Somerset 87-3
Lancs 6pts, Somerset 3pts
Lancashire claimed maximum batting points at Taunton but look set to be denied a first win of 2012 after rain delayed their game against Somerset.
Play did not start until after lunch when Lancashire, resuming on 395-9, claimed the five runs needed to reach 400, before losing their last wicket.
Somerset's Vernon Philander secured a five-wicket haul when Simon Kerrigan was caught at gully by Arul Suppiah.
The hosts then reached 87-3 in reply, with Nick Compton unbeaten on 30.
Lancashire skipper Glen Chapple dismissed both Somerset openers, Arul Suppiah (5) and Lewis Gregory (15) both getting out cheaply as the hosts slumped to 28-2.
However, they were saved by a partnership of 53 for the third wicket before Luke Procter had James Hildreth (30) trapped lbw.
But play was abandoned for the day (1800 BST) with Somerset still trailing by 313 runs.
No play was possible in any of the eight County Championship matches on Sunday, with each game ending in a draw.
