Pace bowler Steven Finn is to spend a month with a New Zealand team in a bid to get ready for England's series against Pakistan in January.
Middlesex's Finn, 22, will play domestic first-class cricket for the Otago Volts next month.
"I jumped at the chance to join the Volts," he said.
"I felt it was crucial to get some four-day cricket under my belt prior to hopefully getting selected for England's series against Pakistan."
Finn, who has 12 Test caps, will link up with the Volts after England's one-day international tour of India.
He will join ahead of their opening Plunket Shield match against Canterbury in Rangiora on 7 November and will remain with the team until 4 December.
Volts coach Vaughn Johnson added: "The management group felt with what Finn brings on and off the field it was an opportunity we needed to grab with both hands."
England take on Pakistan in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in January and February 2012. Pakistan have scheduled their home matches in the United Arab Emirates for "security reasons".
