South Africa captain Graeme Smith marries Morgan Deane
South Africa captain Graeme Smith has married Irish singer Morgan Deane at a private ceremony in Cape Town.
The couple tied the knot at St Bernard Catholic Church in Claremont on Saturday before joining family and close friends at a reception overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Smith, 30, proposed to Deane in April, when the opening batsman flew to Ireland in the aftermath of his side's shock 49-run defeat to New Zealand - a loss that sent them crashing out of the World Cup.
His failure to return home with his team-mates sparked a backlash in his homeland, with Smith being forced to apologise for his absence on the plane home from India.
The newlyweds took to Twitter before the exchange of vows, with Deane tweeting: "Today I'm getting married to the man of my dreams", and Smith adding: "Thanks for all your positive vibes! Most exciting day of my life.
Smith, who had already stepped down as leader of the Twenty20 side, gave up the one-day international captaincy following the World Cup, saying he wanted to concentrate on the Test team.
According to The Sunday Times, Deane arrived at the church in a black Bentley wearing a white silk dress while Smith wore a navy suit and tie with a white shirt.
