CLOSE OF PLAY SUMMARY
BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:
"Surrey will definitely be the happier of the two sides after the first day at Cheltenham. Gloucestershire won the toss and batted first on a good wicket but Surrey were very disciplined with the ball, dismissing the home side for 286.
"Yasir Arafat was the pick of the bowlers with 5-86 and Tim Linley continued his recent good form with 4-59. Gloucestershire were indebted to an excellent innings from Will Gidman, who was the last man out for 85.
"Surrey will look to bat on the second day with the same disciplne their bowlers showed on day one."
