Nottinghamshire trialist Karl Turner could make his debut in the four-day game against Lancashire which gets under way on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old opener, who has been on the books with Hampshire and Durham, scored 186 against MCC Universities and is vying for a place with Neil Edwards.
Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "We'll make a late call on Karl.
"But he has impressed with the way he has batted for the second eleven and he is keen to secure a contract."
