Truro go top of Premier League after beating St Just

Truro have gone top of the Cornwall Premier League after an eight-wicket win over St Just.

In a rain-affected match St Just were bowled out for 195 with Gary Thomas scoring 100 as Kyle Van Rooyan returned with bowling figures of 5-45.

In reply Tom Sharp scored 88 not out and James Walton was 57 not out as Truro reached their target in 41 overs.

The win puts Truro three points clear of second-placed Paul while St Just drop to fifth in the table.

Paul edged past Grampound Road by a single wicket to keep their hopes of a league title alive.

Grampound were bowled out for 129 with Justin Stephens taking 6-41.

Paul nearly threw away the game as they reached their target for the loss of nine wickets, but number 11 Matt O'Leary scored 38 not out as he put on a 51-run final wicket stand with Murray Westren.

Callington are four points off Paul despite being beaten at mid-table St Austell.

The visitors hit 186-9 but St Austell made their target in 37.4 overs as Matt Ellison (76 not out) and Michael Bone (71 not out) put on a match-winning fourth wicket stand of 155.

Werrington closed the gap to Callington as they beat bottom side Newquay by three wickets at home.

Newquay scored 152-8 as Nick Callender, Charles Phillips and Jon Hancock all scored 27.

Mark Horwell hit 50 as Werrington reached their target in just under 40 overs, despite Hancock taking 4-45.

Troon leap-frogged Grampound Road into seventh place after a three-wicket win at home to second-from-bottom Falmouth.

Antony Angove top-scored for Falmouth with 38, but Troon reached their target for the loss of seven wickets as James Rowe top-scored with 78.
