India closed day three of the third and final Test against West Indies in Dominica with a lead of 104 at 308-6.

After the first two days were badly affected by rain in the hurricane season, there were no further delays.

The Windies struck twice in the opening six overs, removing Murali Vijay and Rahul Dravid, to leave India on 18-2.

But four Indian batsmen reached half centuries and skipper Mahendra Dhoni remained unbeaten on 65 from 109 balls, his 21st Test fifty.

Vijay (five) showed early intent by hitting Fidel Edwards to the boundary in the opening over but the Barbadian got his reward for some fine pacy and swinging deliveries when an edge was neatly pouched by wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh.

Skipper Darren Sammy then added the important scalp of obdurate number three Rahul Dravid (5), who left a gap between his bat and pad and was bowled.

Left-hander Abhinav Mukund, in only his third Test, completed his maiden half century three overs before lunch but four overs into the afternoon session he clipped leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo to short-leg and was caught for 62.

Sammy had Virat Kohli caught down the legside and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the highest capped West Indian Test cricketer, claimed only his ninth wicket in 133 matches when VVS Laxman left a wide delivery and his foot was in the air for the fraction of a second Baugh needed to whip off the bails.

It took 16 overs for the first boundary of Suresh Raina's century stand with Dhoni, and there were only four in total, but the pair patiently accumulated runs against a determined West Indian bowling unit.

The partnership was broken by Edwards with the first delivery with the new ball as some late inswing trapped Raina lbw, but Dhoni hit two late boundaries to leave his team in a strong position with two days remaining.
