Dale Benkenstein tips Ben Stokes for England ODI squad

Durham batsman Dale Benkenstein believes team-mate Ben Stokes should be considered for England's one-day matches later this summer.

All-rounder Stokes, 19, has hit four centuries already this season but had been ruled out for six to eight weeks after dislocating a finger.

"There's an opportunity for him to play in the one-day games, and I don't think it's too soon," Benkenstein said.

"I'm sure the selectors have been watching and his name is not far off."

Benkenstein added: "Test cricket is in really good shape but England's 50-overs game is at a stage where we've got four years to go before the next World Cup and there's a bit of a rebuilding stage there."

The South Africa international shared a record partnership with Stokes off 331 for the fourth wicket, and has high hopes for the all-rounder, who dislocated a finger while fielding during Lancashire's second innings on Tuesday.

"He's an exciting talent and one you don't often see, they come around only once in a while," Benkenstein told BBC Newcastle.

"He's doing all the right things, he wants to be playing at the highest level, and he's doing all the right things to put his name right at the top."

Stokes was part of the England development squad and toured Australia as a member of the Lions side last winter.
