|Sussex 173-4 beat Essex 141 by 32 runs|
Rana Naved ul-Hasan took 5-17 in 19 balls as Sussex beat Essex by 32 runs in their FL t20 opener at Hove.
Murray Goodwin (53), opener Chris Nash (43) and Lou Vincent (35) all chipped in as Sussex posted 173-4.
Essex then slumped to 72-5 in reply before Scott Styris rallied his side with a chirpy 47 from 29 balls.
But, once Rana had removed the New Zealand all-rounder, he went on to destroy the tail for a Twenty20 best as Essex were bowled out for 143.
He became the second Sussex player to take five wickets in a Twenty20 innings.
Goodwin, already the county's leading scorer in eight seasons of Twenty20 cricket, took his haul to 1659 runs from 64 innings.
