Surrey took four late Derbyshire wickets to leave the clash at Derby finely poised going into the final day.

After day two had been washed out, Derbyshire opted to declare at 400-9, Tim Linley finishing with 6-81.

Steven Davies (78), Rory Hamilton-Brown (69), Tom Maynard (54) and Zander de Bruyn then all hit half-centuries as Surrey made 358 in reply.

But Linley and debutant Matt Dunn both struck twice to reduce Derbyshire to 35-4 by the close, a lead of 77.

Dunn, 19, was only drafted into the Surrey side after Jade Dernbach was called up by England.

BBC London 94.9's Mark Church:

"Both sides will head into the final day believing they can still win this game. Derbyshire lead by 77 but Surrey's bowlers caused havoc in the last half an hour of play and will look to do the same on the final morning.

"Derbyshire declared on 400-9, with Tim Linley taking a career best 6-81, and Surrey were positive in reply until they lost their last six wickets for just 25 runs, with Steffan Jones the pick of the Derbyshire bowlers.

"The home side led by 42 but Matt Dunn on his Championship debut, replacing England-bound Jade Dernbach, picked up both Derbyshire openers and two late wickets from Linley means a fascinating final day is in prospect."
