Somerset respond to Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow
LV County Championship Division One, Taunton
Close, day one: Yorkshire 358, Somerset 7-0
Yorks 4pts, Somerset 3pts
Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow hit a century before the Somerset bowlers fought back on day one at Taunton.
Wicketkeeper Bairstow (136) and Gary Ballance (61) added 167 for the fifth wicket but, when both men fell to Charl Willoughby (3-90), Yorkshire subsided.
Steve Kirby (3-54) and Gemaal Hussain (3-87) mopped up the tail as Yorkshire lost their last six wickets for 53 runs to be bowled out for 358.
Somerset survived four overs to reach the close on 7-0.
The contributions of Bairstow and Ballance were much-needed for Yorkshire, who were 138-4 after Adam Lyth (39) and Andrew Gale (30) failed to build on good starts.
Bairstow, who has 565 first-class runs this season at an average of over 70, punished anything loose, while Ballance lent solid support.
But Somerset responded in the final session, with Willoughby bowling Bairstow and trapping Adil Rashid lbw in successive deliveries.
After Ballance was caught behind and Ryan Sidebottom fell in similar fashion off Hussain, Yorkshire had slipped to 331-8.
Ajmal Shahzad's 27 earned the Tykes a fourth batting point, but he and Oliver Hannon-Dalby fell to Kirby to complete the Yorkshire collapse.
