Leicestershire overseas star Andrew McDonald is set to return to county action on Wednesday.
McDonald has been released early by Indian Premier League side Dehli Daredevils and is likely to play in the four-day game against Gloucestershire.
"He's in flight," Whitticase told BBC Radio Leicester on Tuesday morning.
"He will land at Heathrow tonight and we hope and expect him to be in consideration for Wednesday. It's fantastic news."
Whitticase said the fact McDonald had been out of favour with Dehli and had only played one game was good news for Leicestershire on many levels.
"I've been chipping away at him for the last 10 days or so knowing that he hasn't played a major part in the IPL," Whitticase added.
"He spent a lot of time watching but he has spent a lot of time in the nets bowling.
"He is ready to go but is just lacking match practice, but he will get a good opportunity to change that when he gets here.
"These flights do take a bit out of people so he might be groggy for 24 or 48 hours."
