British middleweight champion Liam Williams produced a ruthless display to make light work of Karim Achour to take the WBC Silver title at the O2 in London.

The 27-year-old Welshman put Achour down twice in the second round as the experienced Frenchman suffered the first stoppage of his career.

Achour's bout came to an end as his corner prepared to throw in the towel.

In the process Williams enhanced his world title bout hopes at that weight.

Achour had won 27 of his previous 35 fights and never been stopped before meeting Williams.

Williams had knocked out Joe Mullender in his previous outing, at the Royal Albert Hall in March.

His record now stands at 21 wins, two defeats and a draw.

The Williams v Achour fight was on the undercard of a heavyweight double-header in which Daniel Dubois faced Nathan Gorman and Joe Joyce took on Bryant Jennings.

Williams told BT Sport: "I told people I'd do it in two rounds and I did."
