European champion Natasha Gale and 2014 World Championship silver medallist Lisa Whiteside were among the winners at Friday's GB Boxing Championships.

Gale, 28, was too strong for Roseanna Cox in the 75kg division, winning via a unanimous decision in Sheffield.

Her GB squad-mate Whiteside, 32, was given a tough fight by 51kg rival Carly Skelly but took it on a split decision.

The event gives non-Olympic programme boxers the chance to take on a boxer from the GB squad.

The only member of the 12-strong GB squad to lose was heavyweight Lewis Williams, who was edged out on a split decision by Natty Ngwenya, who earns an assessment to try to earn a place on the squad.

Sean Lazzerini secured a place in the Scotland team for next year's Commonwealth Games in Australia with a unanimous points decision over rival Boris Crighton in their 81kg box-off.

"The pressure was on," Lazzerini told BBC Sport. "It was all or nothing out there."
