British, Commonwealth and WBA intercontinental cruiserweight champion Ovill McKenzie has retired from boxing because of a heart condition.

The 36-year-old was forced to withdraw from September's fight for the IBO world title against Germany's Marco Huck on medical grounds.

Derby-based McKenzie won 25 of his 38 professional bouts, 13 by knockout.

"I can no longer pursue my dream of being a world champion," said McKenzie, whose last fight was in October 2015.

"I would like to take this time to thank everyone from my team to the fans.

"As disappointed I am about the situation, it's been a great pleasure getting to perform for you all and have to keep my chin up."
