WBO super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns could still get his dream of an open-air unification fight in Scotland this summer, according to his manager.

Alex Morrison has told BBC Scotland discussions have taken place on finding a suitable venue, with Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium a possibility.

Speculation is increasing that Burns and IBF champion Mzonke Fana could soon meet in a unification showdown.

The South African's opponent pulled out of a bout scheduled for next month.

Burns is signed up to defend his title for a third time on 16 July in Liverpool, with his opponent still to be announced.

That, though, would be postponed if a deal can be reached to fight Fana.

After successfully defending his title against Joseph Laryea in March, Burns said he hoped a bout with Fana could be arranged.

"Airdrie Stadium would be ideal," he said.

"It's only five minutes from my house and I am sure we can get it packed out with 15,000."
