Congratulations to the Raptors! Yes, indeed the Toronto Blue Jays did win the "World Series" in 1993 as the last Canadian-based team to win one of the big championships in North America. The Blue Jays share this distinction with the Montreal Canadiens who also won the Stanley Cup in 1993 (although the Canadiens won earlier in the year).

To those getting upset about the BBC reporting on this:Your anguish sustains me! Thank you deeply. You've no idea.
We The North! Amazing being here in Toronto for it. Let’s hope Kawhi stays for the defense of the title. Not much free agents available to fill the void. The boring keyboard worriers out again I see. Imagine how boring their version of the BBC site would be if all news was just local. How un-worldly and sad an existence it must be. If you don’t like something, move on, you’re pathetic.
Amazing how provincial minded some of you are. Good to know narrow mindedness isn't an American monopoly. Pathetic!
Greetings from western Canada. Hockey may be our game, but it is still great for a Canadian-based to win a league trophy like the NBA's.
Congrats to Raptors. They seized their opportunity with the injuries plagued by GSW, which other teams failed to do. I do have pity for Dwayne Casey, as he never got the resources to back up Lowry and DeRozan(former Raptor) with other star players. The loss for GSW is squarely Steve Kerr's fault. The previous GSW years had strong end effective bench player. Quinn Cook and others were woeful.
@147, be careful, said same thing about those complaining about the coverage, was marked as inappropiate.
Well done Raptors - everyone’s favourite second team. Sad way for the GSW era to end - the injuries to Klay and KD put them in a difficult spot for the future, time to blow it up? As for the idiots on here - no-one asked or cares whether you like the sport. Proud to be one of thousands involved with basketball in the UK - nice to have news for us instead of wall-to-wall soccer nonsense.
Trump.. "Make USA great again"Hahahaha
So glad that drake is happyI knew that the curse was silly.Glad the canadians won for once
The Warriors fought valiantly in the manner of true champions, but ultimately Kawhi Leonard confirmed his elite ranking amongst his peers. An entertaining and absorbing Finals. Congratulations to the Raptors
If you don't like it, don't watch it (which I am sure you haven't...ever) but more importantly, don't click on an article about it to lambaste the fact it exists. Plus, it was won by a team from the Commonwealth, surely that tickles your fancy??
so wanted Drakes blabber mouth to be shut up. His court side trash talking was ridiculous and attention seeking "ambassedor" role? - give me a break . Never less - congrats the actual talent in the arena always good to see a new champ.
I find it very entertaining. Mind you, I find most sport entertaining...apart from speedway. I just don't see what height has to do with it. How many kids will get turned out of academies because they aren't tall enough to be keeper of centre back? Does it make it less watchable? Also, I am sure the internet has enough room to hold one more article and that the cost of this one is negligible.
