The third seed defeated Poland's Kamila Augustyn 21-12 21-17 , despite trailing 5-1 at the start of the second game.
Her rival for olympic selection Liz Cann is out after losing to Sashina Vignes Waran of France.
Egelstaff, who is currently world number 32 to Cann's 50, can now boost her ranking and chances of Olympic selection with a good run in Sweden.
In Friday's second round she will meet Turkey's Ozge Bayrak or Michelle Chan Ky of New Zealand.
