Rory McIlroy stays in US Open contention on three over par

Rory McIlroy remains in contention at the US Open at Merion after a second-round of level-par 70 leaves him on three over for the tournament.

The world number two had finished his first-round 73 earlier on Friday after rain disrupted the opening day of play.

McIlroy's playing partner Tiger Woods also lies three over but his fellow Northern Irishmen Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke both missed the cut.
