World Cup moments: Escobar own goal

BBC Sport counts down 100 World Cup moments, as the 2014 tournament in Brazil draws nearer.

Today looks back to a tragic moment during the 1994 World Cup, when Colombia defender Andres Escobar scored an own goal to give hosts USA the lead.

Colombia would go on to lose the match and come last in the group, and Escobar was murdered when he returned to his hometown of Medellin, rumoured at the time to have been connected to his role in his country's elimination.
