Football Association of Ireland chief executive John Delaney says his board had no hesitation in appointing Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane as the country's new coaching team.
"Once Martin declared his interest, it became an easy decision to recommend to the board that Martin was the man," said the FAI chief.
"Martin wants to manage the Republic of Ireland. I think he could have had multiple jobs over the last month or two but he's chosen to manage the Republic of Ireland and he's very passionate about it."
The outspoken Keane has publicly criticised the FAI chief executive on a number of occasions but Delaney insisted that this was "all in the past" and would not be a concern.
