Sunderland 1-3 Arsenal: I told referee to send me off - Paolo Di Canio

Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio says he jokily invited referee Martin Atkinson to send him off during his side's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, only for the official to take him seriously and banish him to the stands.

Di Canio complained to Atkinson about several decisions given against the Black Cats, and said "'if you want to complete a perfect job, you send me off".

Olivier Giroud put Arsenal in front from debutant Mesut Ozil's pass, but Craig Gardner equalised from the spot after the break before an Aaron Ramsey brace gave Arsenal the win and ensured Sunderland remain bottom of the Premier League table after four games.
