Newcastle's Derek Llambias on Alan Pardew's eight-year deal

Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias explains why Alan Pardew and his coaching staff have been given eight-year deals to stay at the club.

Llambias points to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and Arsene Wenger at Arsenal as models of consistency upon which to base future plans, revealing Pardew's target for this season is to finish in "eighth place or above", but says the manager himself is keen to improve on last season's fifth place.

Former Reading, West Ham, Charlton and Southampton boss Pardew was named the manager of the 2011-12 season by both the Premier League and League Managers' Association.
