Win was what Spurs needed - Villas-Boas

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas says his team's 3-1 win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium was "what we needed" after a stuttering start to their campaign.

A double from Jermain Defoe either side of Gareth Bale's strike gave the Portuguese manager his first win in charge at the fourth attempt, with Villas-Boas stating his team played "great football throughout" the match.

Tottenham will now turn their attentions to the Europa League and their opening group game against Lazio at White Hart Lane on Thursday evening.
