Low expectations 'may help England'

Gareth Southgate, the FA's head of elite development, hopes that a more realistic level of expectation for the England squad going into Euro 2012 will help the team perform better.

The former England defender is well aware that in previous years the weight of expectation has been too high, but says England still have good players who are capable of beating anyone.

Southgate says it is imporatant the FA continues its planning ahead for the medium and long term if England are to be in the mix for winning tournaments in years to come.
