Former world track champion Martyn Irvine to race for new Irish team in 2017
Former world track champion Martyn Irvine comes out of retirement to sign for Ireland's first Professional Continental cycling team.
Irvine will compete for Aqua Blue Sport in 2017, along with team leader Lars Petter Nordhaug and fellow Irishmen Matt Brammeier and Conor Dunne in road racing events mainly in Europe.
Irvine, 31, retired from the sport after failing to qualify for the Rio Olympics but he admitted in May that he was considering a return to the sport.
"A dose of the real world made me appreciate how much fun racing actually is," Irvine told BBC Sport Northern Ireland.
"I suppose a year earlier I would have said, 'go away' and a year later I would have been too fat."
