Scotland's Steph Twell wins British 10,000m title in London
Scotland's Steph Twell won the British title over 10,000m with an impressive performance in London.
The 29-year-old took victory in 31 minutes 08.13 seconds, which is inside the qualifying time for the World Championships in Doha later this year.
In a strong finish, she overtook front-runner Lonah Chemtai Salpeter of Israel with 600m to go.
Fellow Scot Eilish McColgan came third in 31:16.76, also within the world standard.
With Twell not competing in the European Cup event, that meant a silver medal for McColgan.
"A few months ago, in my head, I would probably have let her go," said Twell after her success at Parliament Hill.
"On the back straight, I just thought, I could still see her heels, 'I'm not letting her go'. I didn't even think about her as European champion, she was just another girl in the race and that was important to me to think she wasn't out of reach."
