Ennis is heading towards full form after an ankle tendon injury kept her out of action for seven weeks

British Olympic favourite Jessica Ennis has continued her comeback from injury with a good showing in the Northern Athletics Outdoor Championships.

In the long jump, the world and European heptathlon champion beat runner-up Alexandra Russell by four centimetres with a jump of 6.24 metres.

Ennis threw 44.81 metres in the javelin to finish second behind Hayley Thomas.

An ankle tendon injury saw 25-year-old Ennis miss seven weeks of full training earlier this year.
