Scottish triathlete David McNamee is set to make his first senior appearance in the 2011 Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series in Kitzbuhel.

The event, which starts on Saturday, features Irvine-born McNamee as the only Scot in the line-up.

The race is the third in the series after events in Sydney and Madrid.

The 23-year-old finished 20th at the World Championship Finals in the Under-23 age group in 2010 and sees Olympic qualification as his goal.

"I am really looking forward to taking part as it's the top level in the sport and the level we all strive to compete in," he said.

"With it being Olympic qualification year, the standard in the sport has jumped a level again so this weekend is all about me finding out where I stand in the pecking order.

"I raced in Kitzbuhel two years ago and so I know what to expect - it is a challenging course, but it is easily the most picturesque race of the season and the local community turn out in their numbers to support everyone taking part."

After Kitzbuhel, the Series moves on to Hamburg in July before an event at Hyde Park in London on 6-7 August, where British athletes will have the first opportunity to qualify for Olympic selection.

Live video coverage from Kitzbühel will be available on BBC Red Button and the BBC Sport website.
