Sussex Flag competition

Can you design a flag for Sussex? As Sussex Day nears, we're inviting your designs for a Sussex flag which sums up the whole of the historic county of Sussex.

The folk living in West Sussex already know what it means to have a flag that celebrates their history. The blue and white banner can be seen fluttering from flagpoles throughout the area.

What is Sussex Day?

Sussex Day on June 16th, is a celebration of all things uniquely Sussex.

In the words of the organisers, it's an opportunity for all who live there to "celebrate its rich heritage and to share a sense of immense pride in where they live."

But what about the rest of Sussex?

With Sussex Day approaching, we thought it was high time that Sussex, as a whole, had it's own flag.

Something that everyone can be proud of, and one that reflects the history, diversity and landscape of the entire county.

THE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED. THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY.

Graham Bartram, who is Chief Vexillologist at the Flag Institute, has produced a design which you can see above.

VEXILLOLOGY IS THE STUDY OF FLAGS.
