Can I use BBC Sounds on my mobile or tablet?

Can I install the app?

You can install the BBC Sounds app if your device is running on:

  • Amazon Fire OS 5.0 or above
  • Android 5.0 or above
  • iOS 11 or above

Can I use the website?

You can access the BBC Sounds website at We can confirm support for the following operating systems and browsers:  

  • Amazon Fire OS 5 and above
  • Android 6 and above (We can confirm full support for the latest versions of the following browsers: Google Chrome and Firefox)
  • iOS 10 and above
  • Amazon Silk
  • Google Chrome (latest version)
  • Internet Explorer 11
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest version)
  • Safari (latest version)

Can I access the BBC Sounds website on my 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation iPad? 

Yes, but only if you've updated the operating system on your iPad to version iOS 9.3 or above. See instructions below on how to update your iPad. 

How do I know what operating system my device is running?

Amazon Fire

  • Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings
  • Tap Settings, then Device
  • Tap System Updates


  • Go to Settings
  • Scroll down and tap About Phone/About Device
  • Scroll down to the Android version


  • Go to Settings
  • Tap on General, then About
  • Scroll down to Version
