BBC Red Button
BBC Red Button is the name for the BBC’s digital, interactive television services. It offers text and video-based services, as well as enhanced television programmes, with extra information, video or quizzes.
We run two versions of Red Button. BBC Red Button and BBC Red Button+. BBC Red Button is available on most digital televisions or set top boxes. BBC Red Button+ is only available on many newer Smart TVs connected to the internet. Some smart TVs also have the choice to access the standard Red Button service as well as Red Button+.
The service can be accessed by pressing the red button on your remote via Freeview, satellite and cable television.
The red button graphic will appear in the top right-hand corner of the picture to prompt you when there is interactive content available for the programme you are watching.

Digital TV makes it possible for you to do many things with your television - join in with programmes, see extra news stories and sports coverage, check latest sports results, travel information and weather forecasts.
To go interactive, simply press the red button on your remote control at any time. Sometimes you will be prompted to press the red button by an announcement in a programme or a red button logo appearing in the top right-hand corner of your TV screen.
Interactive TV is available with any digital service, though the type and number of features vary according to whether you have digital terrestrial, satellite, cable or broadband.
Most of the interactive features currently available are provided by the BBC, Sky and the cable companies. A few other broadcasters, including ITV, offer a limited range.
BBC Red Button+
BBC Red Button+ is available on selected Smart TVs or set-top boxes. BBC Red Button+ brings you the best of BBC Online and iPlayer straight to your living room. You can access the service by pressing the red button on your remote control and enjoy additional content from BBC TV, News, Sport, Weather and CBBC and CBeebies.
