Changes to Radio Wales & Radio 3 on FM in Wales

We are expanding the FM coverage of BBC Radio Wales by taking over the frequencies currently used for BBC Radio 3 at thirty-two transmitters in Wales.

These transmitters will be swapping their BBC Radio 3 FM frequency to transmit Radio Wales from the early hours of 24th October and, as a result, 180,000 more households will be able to receive Radio Wales on FM than before.

BBC Radio 3 listeners in some parts of Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire will need to re-tune to continue listening to BBC Radio 3, either by using another FM frequency, or by listening on DAB.

A few households will lose BBC Radio 3 altogether from any transmitter and will need to listen via the internet or Digital TV.

At some larger transmitters, BBC Radio 3 will be replaced by a recorded announcement in the week leading up to the 24th October. This will tell listeners about the change and provide information on how to continue listening to BBC Radio 3.

We understand this change poses questions and we have answered the main queries on this FAQ page
