Tom Howe

Tom Howe joined BBC R&D 2013 through the trainee scheme. Prior to that, he studied Information Engineering at the University of Cambridge, where he specialised in computer vision and signal processing.

Tom works in the IRFS Experiences team, developing prototypes for new forms of content. He current research projects focus around conversational UI, mobile apps, and the Internet of Things.

During his traineeship, he wrote an image processing algorithm to track footballs in video sequences, created a test framework for the IP Studio project, built a VR browser for exploring news around the world, and worked on Elastic News, developing mobile apps to prototype future news experiences for young adults.

Tom has also been directly involved with TV productions, creating camera systems for Secret Life of Cats, and a phone activity monitoring system for Child of Our Time.
