Simon Highfield

Simon joined the BBC in 2018, and works between R&D and the BBC Philharmonic to use new technology to help the orchestra reach new audiences. This includes producing binaural sound recordings to provide immersive listening experiences, and helping design BBC Notes – a platform for showing text and images to radio audiences to illustrate the story or music.

Simon comes from a background in music production and broadcast sound. He received a BSc in Music and Sound Recording (Tonmeister) from the University of Surrey and has worked as a studio and location recording engineer, an OB truck engineer, a dubbing mixer and grams op. Simon has also composed music and was the winner of the 2018 Joyce Dixey Competition for his composition: Stutter.
