 | | | | TERRORISM: Suicide Bombers Dr Raj Persaud talks to Dr Andrew Silke Fellow of the University of Leicester Scarman Centre, about the psychology of the suicide bomber.
SHYNESS and SOCIAL PHOBIA: Shyness is a very little understood condition. Danny, a student at Manchester University and Susie Scott, a postgraduate sociologist at Cardiff University describe living with shyness and social phobia.
Dr Raj Persaud is joined by two experts on shyness, Dr Kenneth Rubin, Director of the Laboratory for the Study of Child and Family Relationships at the University of Maryland and author of The Friendship Factor and Dr Ray Crozier, Reader in Psychology at the University of Cardiff and author of Understanding Shyness, to explore the issue and discuss the roots of shyness and ways of dealing with it.
The Pyramid Trust runs a national scheme in 200 schools around the country to help seven to eight year olds deal with shyness. Children who have been identified as shy by teachers can attend a specially-run after school Club. Claudia Hammond meets Sue Browne from Leicester Education Action Zone when she visits the scheme at Inglehurst Junior School and speaks to some volunteers.
