WOLVES
Hated, reviled and feared, trapped and poisoned through the centuries, the wolf has suffered from persistent and systematic attempts to exterminate it. No other carnivore rivals the wolf in the profound effect exerted on human affairs.
Dr Garry Marvin, reader in anthropology at Roehampton University talks about his current research and traces man's relationship with the animal from the earliest records to the present day. He also shares the findings of his anthropological fieldwork with sheep farmers in Albania.
NEOLIBERALISM AND NEOCONSERVATISM IN USA
Is democracy coming to an end in the USA? With American neoliberals placing the market above everything else, and neoconservatives viewing morality as their primary concern, the inevitable collisions between the two manifest themselves in ways which stretch from the furore surrounding Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' at the Super Bowl to corporate scandals and disgraced CEOs.
Laurie Taylor is joined by Wendy Brown, Professor of Political Science, University of California, Berkeley who presents the case that democracy is in danger of being crushed between the forces of neoliberalism and neoconservatism.
