Lord Asriel: (Terence Stamp) Lyra's uncle, whose dæmon, is a handsome snow leopard. A dynamic and powerful adventurer, Lord Asriel in the possibility of other universes and is concerned with the investigation of Dust.
Lyra Belacqua: (Lulu Popplewell) A half-wild, half-civilized young girl who lives among the scholars of Jordan College. Lyra's fate is intertwined with the theological mysteries of Dust and the possibility of other universes. To play the large - perhaps universe-saving - part to which she appears destined, Lyra must act without realizing what she is doing.
Will Parry: (Daniel Anthony)
A young boy living in modern-day Oxford, Will is the son of explorer John Parry. When his father disappears Will sets off to discover the truth about him.
Iofur Raknison: (Gerard McDermott) The usurper king of the armored bears of Svalbard. A vain and foolish polar bear ruler who is building an ornate marble palace in an effort to become more like humans. Iofur longs to have his own dæmon.
Iorek Byrnison: (Steve Hodson) A noble armoured bear who has been deposed and disgraced and stripped of his armour (his soul, the bear equivalent of a dæmon). He becomes Lyra's protector and friend.
Master of Jordan: (Bill Paterson) The top ranking scholar of Jordan College, who feels responsible for raising and protecting Lyra, and who has learned something of her fate from the alethiometer, which he then entrusts to Lyra, thus setting the story in motion.
Farder Coram: (Kenneth Cranham) a wise, old gyptian man that helps Lyra to understand the alethiometer.
Lee Scoresby: (Peter Marinker) Texan Balloonist who befriended Lyra in Northern Lights and helps Grumman in his task of finding the bearer of The Subtle Knife.
