From Stoke-on-Trent to stoked on Strictly

At just 24 years old, AJ is our youngest male professional — and, given he’s only been dancing competitively since he was 12, it makes his speedy, spirited routines seem all the more impressive!
His Strictly journey started off splendidly, reaching the semi-final with actress Claudia Fragapane in 2016. He repeated his result the following year reaching fifth position with Mollie King in 2017.
Paired with World Champion paratriathlete Lauren Steadman in 2018, it was third time a charm for AJ as the duo made it all the way to week 12 just shy of the Grand Final.
Born in 1994 in Stoke-on-Trent, AJ was always active. But long before he discovered dance, he found slightly more treacherous ways to get his heart rate up – extreme sports such as snowboarding and mountainboarding were his passion, until a broken arm helped him see sense!
That broken arm proved to be a blessing, as AJ swapped the slopes for the dancefloor. He quickly demonstrated a talent, and a coach paired him up with a local dancer, who just happened to be another Strictly 2016 newbie – Chloe Hewitt.
Over the course of nine years together, AJ and Chloe became National Youth Latin Champions three years running, as well as European Youth Latin Champions. But the Glitterball Trophy is a whole other story, and AJ has his eye firmly on the prize…
