Angela Ahrendts was appointed CEO of Burberry on 1st July 2006. She was tasked with re-inventing the brand-image of the fashion house, which was established in 1856. Since her arrival in January 2006 she has doubled sales and generated annual revenues of over £1.8 billion.

She had similar successes as executive vice-president of US brand Liz Clairborne whose remit she increased and diversified dramatically. She began her career in 1981, and her first executive appointment was with Donna Karan in 1989. She has not taken a day off sick in twenty-five years.
