Meet Jonnie Peacock

“My friends would describe my current level of dancing as...non-existent?

Champion paralympian Jonnie is going to be jazzing up his lycra and hopes to dance his way to victory.

I bet I’m the most competitive Paralympian on the show!

After training for only four years Jonnie sprinted to the finish line and achieved gold at the 100m London Paralympics in 2012. Two years prior to his Paralympic gold, he set a new 100 metre world record, in amputee sprinting, in the US.

Jonnie has struggled at times since becoming one of Britain’s most recognisable Paralympic figures. He had to withdraw from 2015’s World Championships in Doha due to injury. He soon recovered and went on to set yet another world record at the 2016 Rio Olympics!

'To defend my title is unbelievable. I’ve always said that nothing is ever going to top London as a personal achievement but Rio, as a sporting achievement, was always going to be so much greater.'

On top of his busy athletic career, Jonnie’s made multiple TV appearances, including The Last Leg, Alan Carr’s Chatty Man and The Crystal Maze.

Jonnie’s learnt most of his Strictly knowledge from his Mum, Nan and sisters, who are massive fans of the show. And he can’t wait to pick up his courage on the dancefloor and learn a new skill.

‘I’ve always wanted to have the ability and confidence to dance so I hope I get to a stage where I can do that.’

A winner at heart, Jonnie’s determined to go all the way and he’d be happy if he makes it to the neon lights of Blackpool, as he’d love to experience the nightlife of the city!
