Meet Alexandra Burke

“I’m having to pinch myself because it’s been a dream of mine for the longest time.”

Switching up her vocal skills for glitterballs. It’s time for Alexandra to face the music again and dance All Night Long.

Born with stars in her eyes, Burke was just five years old when she started singing, and by the age of 12 she was runner-up on Jane McDonald’s TV Show - Star for a Night.

Later the X Factor beckoned, after missing out on the finals in 2005, it was second time lucky for Alexandra. In 2008, following her epic duet with Beyonce, she was crowned X Factor winner and went on to sell over 4 million records, in the UK alone, making her one of the show’s most successful stars.

On her X Factor journey Alexandra said “It is tough when you are rejected like that and it takes a lot of courage to go back and put yourself through it again.”

In 2014, it was time to tread the boards in London’s West End show, The Bodyguard, the role paved the way for further success as a musical theatre star. Alexandra is currently juggling her stint on Strictly with the lead in Sister Act, a show directed and choreographed by our very own Craig Revel Horwood.

I think everyone taking part would of course like to reach the end. But I know I have a lot of work to do first!

When it comes to dancing, Alexandra says “I have danced since I was little but different styles, street dance, contemporary; the more commercial side - so this is completely new to me. I am going to work as hard as I possibly can to learn all of the different styles of dance and routines.”

Alexandra joins fellow X Factor alumni, JLS star Aston Merrygold in this year's class of 2017. Will she triumph in another television competition and become Queen of the ballroom, or will she be walking away with Broken Heels? Only time will tell.
